While looking for books about encouragement, I asked for recommendations from a Facebook group. One of the suggestions was Holley Gerth's You'reAlready Amazing: Embracing Who You Are, Becoming All God Created You to Be, published in 2012.
The book, divided into eleven chapters and a study guide, begins with a dare "to read on" to discover why we "don't have to do more, be more, have more." [1] Gerth writes directly to the reader as if the author and the reader are friends. I find this helps one feel more open and willing to listen to her message of accepting ourselves as amazing. There are numerous parts that suggest we take a step back and then evaluate and apply what we have read. For example, in the second chapter Gerth asks us to find our strengths and skills. In chapter 8, "What Does God Want Me to Do with My Life?" we are asked to write a LIFE statement. We are given space both within the chapter and in the "Go Deeper Guide" at the end of the book.
You're Already Amazing includes biblical references to support the idea that
"we are wonderfully made," "deeply loved," and
"daughters of the King." [2]
"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." Psalm
139:14 (KJV)
"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over
a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)
"The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold." Psalm 45:13 (KJV)
The biggest problem is that women see themselves as never doing
enough and never perfect -- but God created us. We are exactly what He needs us to
be.
"And here's the thing: we only get one you. There never has been -- and never will be -- another you in this world." [3]
What a powerful message!
This is one of the twelve books I am reading this year.
Please see my post Book Club: Reading List for 2018 about my other
to-read books. I recommend this book to those who need to be reminded: You are already amazing.
Sounds like a great book!
