Crafts: Paper Plate Pig

Materials 


Steps 


1. Gather all your materials.

2. Paint the paper plates.

3. While paint is drying, cut out round face, nose, ears, feet and hooves from pink and black construction paper.

4. After the paint is dried, glue construction paper pieces onto the paper plate.

5. Glue googly eyes onto your pig's face.


6. Curl the pipe cleaner to make the pig's tail and then tape it onto the back of the plate.


7. Don't forget to add your child's name and date to the back of the paper plate.

Crafts: Cardboard Paper Roll Chicks

For a quick craft, I decided to make toilet paper roll chicks with my two littles. I think these make a great craft for the spring season, learning about chickens, or Easter time.

Materials 


Steps 


1. Gather all your materials.

2. Paint toilet paper rolls yellow.  My son and daughter used both paint brushes and finger painting.

3. While the paint is drying, cut out the beaks. Just small triangles will do.

4. After your paint has dried, glue on googly eyes, the beak, and feathers.

5. If you wish, you can attach construction paper feet.

Crafts: Paper Plate Chick

For spring, we made some chicks to celebrate the warmer weather.

Materials


Steps 



1. Gather all the materials.


2. Paint the paper plate yellow.

3. While the paper plate is drying, cut out a yellow circle for the face and an orange beak and feet for the chick.

3. After the paper plate is dry, glue the yellow circle, eyes, and beak onto the paper plate.


4. Select several feathers and tape them onto the back of the paper plate.

5. Tape the feet onto the back of the paper plate.

6. Display your child's artwork!

Craft: St. Patrick's Day Print

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, my son made a print of Shamrocks to hang in our kitchen.


Materials


Steps 


1. Gather all your materials.

2. Put some green paint on a tray.

3. Rubber-band the three corks together to create your 'stamp.'


4. Allow your child to dip the corks into the paint and stamp onto the paper to create shamrocks.




5. Paint the stems of the shamrocks with a brush.

Crafts: George Washington's Birthday

On February 22, 1732, the first President of the United States of America, George Washington, was born in Virginia  (still a colony of Great Britain at the time). It is celebrated as Presidents Day on the third Monday in February.

We celebrated his birthday in our household by reading Meet George Washington by Joan Heilbroner starting on Presidents Day and continuing during lunch for the week.  My son also created a George Washington mask.

Facts about George Washington 



  • first American President (April 30, 1789 - March 4, 1797) 
  • surveyor 
  • Commander of the Continental Army 
  • President of the Constitutional Convention 
  • Gentleman planter 
  • married Martha Dandrige Custis (in 1759) 

During his presidency, Washington 


  • established a Supreme Court
  • established position of Attorney General 
  • created the Department of Foreign Affairs 
  • Created position of Secretary of State 
  • established official currency of United States
  • established what would become United States Navy

Steps 


1. Gather all materials.

2. Cut out center of paper plate to create a hole for your child's face.

3. Draw and cut out hat on blue construction paper.

5. Attach craft stick on back.

6. After drying, your child can play with their mask.
